The Music category welcomes original musical works that demonstrate creativity, technical understanding, and artistic purpose. Submissions may include original compositions, recorded performances, or sound-based projects. Both traditional and contemporary styles are encoraged.

Category Overview

The Music category invites submissions in two distinct areas: Original Composition and Instrumental Performance. Applicants may submit work that reflects musical insight, artistic discipline, and creative expression.

A . Composition Track

Who should apply
• Students submitting an original piece of music they have composed, regardless of genre or instrumentation

Required Materials
1 . Musical Score
• Submit a complete, clearly notated score in PDF format
• If your piece includes electronics or unconventional elements, you may include performance instructions or an annotated guide
• File name format: LastFirstNameTitle_Score.pdf

2 . Written Description (300-500 words)
• Outline the concept, structure, and creative process behind the work
• Describe the instrumentation, stylistic influences, and any technical or thematic intentions
• Explain your goals as a composer and what you hope the listener experiences

3 . Audio or Video Recording (Optional but encouraged)
• If available, include an audio or video recording of the composition (live or digital rendering)
• Format: MP3, WAV, MP4, or YouTube/Vimeo link (public or unlisted)
• File name format: LastFirstName_Title_Audio.mp3

Title Page (PDF for both tracks)

Include the following information:
• Applicant’s full name
• Email address
• Submission category: Music
• Track: Composition or Instrumental Performance
• Title of the work
• Duration

Additional Notes

• Submissions must be written in English. You may attach an addition version in your native language, but the English version will be used for review.
• Previously published, AI-generated, or plagiarized work will not be considered.
• Feedback will not be provided on individual submissions.

Originality Policy

All submissions must be the applicant’s own, original work.
Submissions must not have been previously published, formally submitted to other competitions, or generated in whole or in part by artificial intelligence tools. Work that is found to be plagiarized or in violation of these guidelines will be disqualified without exception.
Applicants are expected to uphold the values of integrity, authorship, and independent thought that define the spirit of the Hearth Fellowship Prize.

B . Instrumental Performance Track

Who should apply
• Students submitting a performance of a musical piece (composed by themselves or another composer), showcasing interpretive and technical skill

Required Materials
1 . Performance Video
• Submit a video of your solo or ensemble performance
• Maximum duration: 3 minutes
• Format: MP4 or YouTube/Vimeo link (must be public or unlisted)
• The video must be unedited from start to finish

2 . Written Description or Performer Bio (300-500 words)
Choose one:
• A written reflection describing why you chose this piece, your interpretive approach, and any challenges you encountered
A brief performer bio, including your musical background, instrument, and artistic goals
